— Vehicles
- How do I track fuel consumption without filling the tank to the brim every time?
Mark a stop either as filled to full or as made at the low-fuel warning light, and consumption is measured between two matching marks — full-to-full or empty-to-empty — with every fill-up in between added in.
Vehicle expenses → - How do I log a refuel once and have it count in both my fuel log and my budget?
Record it as a refuel on the vehicle: the same entry is a fuel-log row with odometer, amount and price per unit, and a categorized expense in this month's budget.
Vehicle expenses → - How much does my car cost to run per month and per kilometer or mile?
Refuels, services and any expense you tag with the vehicle add up to its running costs, shown per month and per unit of distance.
Vehicle expenses → - How do I track a plug-in hybrid's gasoline and electricity separately?
Give the vehicle both fuel types; each refuel or charge is recorded against one of them, so gasoline and kWh keep separate averages.
Vehicle expenses → - Can I see fuel economy in MPG, L/100km or kWh per 100 km?
Yes, chosen per fuel type — distance per fuel, fuel per 100 distance or fuel per distance — with a default that follows the vehicle's distance unit.
Vehicle expenses → - How do I split a service bill into parts and labor?
A service entry records what was done with parts and labor split out, so the year's maintenance shows how much went on components and how much on workshop time.
Vehicle expenses → - Can I track a motorcycle, a boat or a lawnmower, not just a car?
Yes. Any vehicle works the same way, and machines measured in running hours use an hour meter instead of an odometer, with costs per hour.

— Home & utility bills
- How do I track my electricity usage and what I pay per kWh?
Add an Electricity meter that shows on your electricity bills and type the reading from each bill into the transaction: the app works out the kWh used since the previous reading, and the price per kWh from what you paid.
Meters & usage → - How do I track hot and cold water from one utilities bill?
Give each its own meter, both shown on your Utilities category, and enter both readings on the one transaction; split the amount, and each meter gets its own price per m³ with the rest of the bill, like building upkeep, left out.
Meters & usage → - How do I track my usage when I pay the same amount every month?
Add readings on the meter's page whenever you read the meter — a reading doesn't need a payment — so usage shows month by month, while the fixed monthly payments stay ordinary transactions.
Meters & usage → - What do I do when my meter is replaced?
Add a reading on the meter's page with “New meter” ticked, holding the new meter's starting value; usage carries on from there, and the old meter's readings keep their history.
Meters & usage → - Can I track how much my solar panels generate?
Yes. A meter doesn't need a bill: type the reading from the inverter app on the meter's page or from a dashboard button, and its chart shows the kWh generated each month.
Meters & usage →
— Budgets & everyday spending
- How do I budget when my income changes every month?
Set a budget as a percentage of the income recorded in that period instead of a fixed amount, so the target moves with what you actually earned.
Flexible budgeting → - Can a budget be a savings goal instead of a spending limit?
Yes. A budget can track saving rather than spending, as a fixed amount or a share of income, once or per day, week, month, quarter or year.
Flexible budgeting → - How do I log expenses quickly on my phone?
Pin recurring expenses as quick-add buttons, pre-filled with category, payee, account and amount, and most entries take two taps.
Flexible budgeting → - How do I see the total cost of a trip or a renovation?
Tag its expenses with a project. Projects cut across categories, so the groceries stay groceries and the trip still adds up to one total.

— Price per hour, visit or night
- How do I work out my real hourly rate as a freelancer?
Add an “amount used” meter in hours that shows on your freelance income and enter the hours each payment covers; the meter divides what you were paid by the hours you worked, per payment and on average.
Meters & usage → - How much does each gym visit actually cost me?
Add a Gym visits meter that shows on payments to your gym and enter how many times you went with each monthly fee; the meter shows the cost per visit, month by month and on average.
Meters & usage → - How much do I pay per night for hotels?
Add an “amount used” meter in nights that shows on your Accommodation category and enter the nights with each booking; its average price is what a night costs you.
Meters & usage →
— Currencies & travel
- How do I track spending on a trip abroad?
Enter each expense in the currency on the receipt, on the card or cash account you paid with; the app converts it to your base currency, so your budgets count it in the money you think in.
Multi-currency → - How do I budget when I'm paid in one currency and live in another?
Make the currency you live in your base currency, keep the salary account in the currency you're paid in, and set budgets as a percentage of income — the targets are worked out from your salary converted to your base currency.
Multi-currency → - How do I log a refuel abroad, paid in another currency?
Record the refuel on the vehicle as usual and enter the amount in the local currency; the fuel log keeps what you paid, and the vehicle's running costs and your fuel budget count it in your base currency.
Multi-currency → - Which exchange rate is used for a foreign-currency transaction?
On the free plan, the latest rate on your device when you save — refreshed whenever the app starts with a connection; on the paid plan, the rate from the transaction's own date, applied during sync.
Multi-currency → - Can I keep accounts in different currencies?
Yes. Each account has its own currency — a euro current account, a dollar card, cash in Swiss francs — and totals roll up into your base currency.
Multi-currency → - What happens to my history if I change my base currency?
It's recalculated into the new one — straight away at the latest rates on the free plan, and during the next sync at each transaction's own date on the paid plan.

— Your dashboard
- Can my phone and my laptop show different dashboards?
Yes. The layout is saved per device, so the phone can hold quick-add buttons and the laptop charts, over the same data.
Customizable dashboard → - What can I put on my dashboard?
Quick-add buttons, refuel and service shortcuts for a vehicle, charts and section headers, grouped into tabs you name yourself.
Customizable dashboard →
— Devices, offline & privacy
- Does it work without an internet connection?
Yes. The data lives in a database on your device, so the app is fully usable offline; it needs a connection only to load the first time, and for sync if you turn it on.
Any device, offline → - Which devices does it run on?
Anything with a current browser — iPhone, iPad, Android, Windows, macOS, Linux and ChromeOS — and installed to a home screen or desktop it opens in its own window.
Any device, offline → - How do I use the same budget on my phone and my laptop?
Turn on sync, part of the paid Standard plan: your data is backed up and kept in step across your own devices. On the free plan it stays on one device.
Any device, offline → - Do I have to connect my bank account?
No. There is no bank connection at all — you enter transactions yourself, so no third party ever holds your banking credentials.

Flexible by design — and the tradeoff that comes with it
FlexiBudget decides very little for you. A budget watches the categories and accounts you pick, a chart shows the categories, payees, projects or vehicles you choose, the dashboard holds the widgets you put there, and the categories, payees and projects themselves carry your names rather than ours. That's what lets one app fit a household with three cars, a freelancer paid in two currencies and someone who only wants to watch their grocery spending.
The price is a little setup. A new account starts with sensible defaults, but getting the app to answer your questions means configuring it — telling a budget what to watch, telling a chart what to show. If you would rather an app connect to your bank and sort everything for you, a bank-sync budgeting app will suit you better, and the comparison pages say honestly when that's the case.
